In a world of instant, there is one thing that I will always hold near and dear to my heart that isn’t just a “send” button away – Christmas cards. Sure they take effort to make and days to send/arrive, but to hold that printed, physical card in my hand is priceless and a very important part of the holiday season.
I vividly remember family vacations as a child. Part of those family vacations included the annual “Christmas Card Picture.” We’d find someone to take our family photo on the beach, in front of a monument, or by a landmark. It was a precious way to capture that memory and share it with close friends and family.
Since our dog Peak is an integral part of our family, but not easily transported on a plane for family trips, we usually take our Christmas card photos here at home. This year, we did a fall mini with my favorite Cleveland family photographer alongside my mom and stepdad to capture some lovely family moments.
I’m so grateful to have this photo in particular.
Designing our 2016 Christmas Card
I love supporting independent artists, so I was really excited when Minted approached me for a collaboration. Their 2016 holiday card collection features one of a kind designs sourced from their global community of independent artists. Not only are the designs on Minted beautiful, they’re printed on thick, high quality paper, something that unfortunately isn’t the “standard” anymore.
As I perused the different designs, from foil-pressed to letterpress formats, I found that there were cards for all different styles and budgets. While I ultimately selected a foil-press style, I was teetering on the smart and chic postcards (postage savings!).
Here are my favorite designs from the 2016 Christmas Card collection.

After uploading my file for the Find It Fast™ feature, which automatically added my photo to the selection page, it was clear who the true winner was – Christmas Love.
The Christmas Love design worked best with the layout of my card photo. I love the simple, yet elegant design and the gold foil-press.
I selected the multi photo story option. I love how I was able to add additional photos from the family photo shoot to the card to complete the story. I then added a recap of 2016 to complete the card.
Next was selecting the free matching envelop design and recipient addressing. I downloaded an Excel template and all my recipient addresses were instantly uploaded to my envelope designs. That just saved me a good 30 minutes of envelope addressing – score!
I added the cards + envelopes to my cart, placed the order and a proof is on its way! I can’t wait to see how the finished cards turns out. Once it arrives, I’ll update this post.
